Come discover what you always wanted to know but never had the time to learn. The lecture series, which gives an introduction to three different topics, and the short courses, which each focus on one topic, both provide a perfect window into the world of classical music.

What is a Concerto?
A surprisingly wide variety of pieces exist under that name. So what is it? This course will examine the origins of the concerto and chart its development up to the present day.

Who Invented the Symphony?
And where did it come from? This course will explore the origin of the symphony and take a look at what has become of it over the past 250 years.

The course will explore the most characteristic form of Western classical music and look at how composers as diverse as Haydn, Beethoven, Mahler and Prokofiev have used this form in their works.
