Ensembles

Playing with others is an invaluable part of musicianship. Ensemble work develops listening, team and leadership skills, and gives participants the wonderful experience of creating music with others.

Whatever your age, subject or skill level, our staff will help you choose an appropriate ensemble experience.

Most ensembles run on a yearly basis but students may enter during the year by audition and with permission of the conductor.

Participants in the Kaufman Center's Young Artist Program all participate in ensembles.

Young Artist Program

An Alternative Course of Study for Highly Motivated Young Musicians

The Young Artist Program (YAP) at Kaufman Center offers highly motivated music students a comprehensive and unique course of study.

Each week students in the program have a 90-minute private lesson, 60 minutes of ensemble coaching, a 60-minute seminar-style class exploring music theory, literature and composition and a 60-minute ear-training class.

In addition, students participate in a monthly performance class and regularly scheduled solo and chamber music recitals held both at the school and at off-site venues.

Students in the Young Artist Program meet on a regular basis with program administrators to discuss their progress. Extensive support is provided for those interested in pursuing music studies in college.

Ages: Grades 9–12
Interview and audition required (see below)

2008–09 Yearlong Classes (30 Weeks)
Fee: $4,900 (this price includes private lesson fees)

Requirements
Young Artist Program students are required to fully participate in all master classes, workshops and specialized seminars, and to represent the program through public recitals and performances.

Admission
Admission is highly competitive and requires an application, interview and audition. For those students who require tuition assistance, an additional application is required. Each student is evaluated mid-year and again at the end of the school year to assess progress and achievements. Students assemble a portfolio of written work as well as community service that is also reviewed at the end of the year. Re-admission to the program is conducted at the conclusion of each year following a review of these assessments.
