When to Enroll
Due to the popularity of our courses and our small class sizes, many of our classes fill quickly. We recommend registering in a timely fashion, well before Labor Day.
Enrollment Confirmation
Please allow three to four weeks after you've registered to receive your class schedule. If registration has not been confirmed, please call or email the Education Office before the first day of class or first lesson.
Registration / Payment for Children and Teen Classes
Q: Is there a registration fee?
A: Yes, a registration fee of $40 per child applies each school year.
Q: How do I pay?
A: Payments are accepted by check, money order, credit card (MasterCard, Visa or American Express) or cash. Credit card payments may also be made by telephone.
Q: When are payments due?
A: Tuition and fees per person of $800 or less are due in full upon registration. If total fees are more than $800 and you are registering prior to August 1 for the full year, you may pay a deposit of $245 plus the registration fee. If you would like to pay in two installments we offer this convenience free of charge. The first payment is due on September 1 and the second payment is due on January 2. The first tuition payment must be made by September 1 in order to retain the student's lesson time and/or class space. Please note that credit cards are not kept on file and will NOT be automatically charged.
Q: Can I pay my tuition in installments?
A: Yes, families can request an extended payment plan, which allows payment in four installments during the year. There is a $25 charge for this. The extended payments must be arranged in writing with the Registrar.
Q: What is the fee for late tuition payments?
Late tuition payments without arrangement for extended payment will be charged a late fee of 2% per month. Students' lessons and classes will be interrupted if accounts fall behind in payment.

Withdrawals / Refunds
Q: What is the withdrawal procedure?
A: All requests for withdrawal must be received, in writing, by Lucy Moses School before any student will be considered withdrawn. Written request, either by letter or e-mail, should be directed to the Registrar of Lucy Moses School. Verbal requests or notification of intention to withdraw do not fulfill this requirement. Notifying the teacher does not constitute notice of withdrawal. The effective date of withdrawal is the date that the written notice is received, not the last date of class or private lesson. Students receiving financial aid or scholarship forfeit their award upon withdrawal.
Q: Do you offer trial classes?
A: Because of our flexible refund policy, we do not offer trial lessons.
Q: What is the refund policy?
A: Students withdrawing more than two days before the first class/lesson will receive a full tuition refund minus the registration fee.
- Classes for Children: A pro-rated tuition refund will be given for students withdrawing from classes during the first three (3) weeks of the class. If the student is withdrawing in the fourth (4th) week, a tuition refund of 50% will be given. There will be no refunds after the fifth (5th) class session.
- Classes for Adults: A pro-rated tuition refund will be given for students withdrawing from classes during the first week of the class. There will be no refunds after the second (2nd) class session.
- Withdrawal from Private Lessons: Students are requested to notify the office and teacher with two weeks advance notice in writing. Refunds for unused lessons will be made minus a $75 withdrawal fee.
- Registration fees are not refundable.
- Please allow three to four weeks for processing of refunds.
Schedule Changes
For group classes, students are permitted one program change per school year. For any additional changes (class, day, time or teacher), there will be a $10 charge.
Cancellations
While this is unusual, classes at Lucy Moses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. If this occurs, the school will make every effort to reschedule the student for another class at a convenient time.
If this is not possible, you will receive a full refund including both tuition and registration fees.
Attendance
Q: Whom should I contact if I must miss a lesson, rehearsal or a class?
A: In case of illness or other need to be absent from a group class, students/parents should call 212-501-3360 or email lucymosesschool@kaufman-center.org at least 24 hours in advance. For private lessons students/parents should contact the teacher directly by phone.
Q: What is your attendance policy?
A: Students are expected to attend and be punctual to all lessons, classes, and rehearsals. Students who are routinely late, unprepared or demonstrate inappropriate behavior may have their registration cancelled and, if receiving financial aid, their award cancelled.
Q: What is the makeup policy?
A: For private lessons, one excused absence is allowed per year with 24-hour advance notification. In that case, a make-up lesson may be scheduled at a time that is mutually convenient. Students enrolled in one section of a class are expected to attend that section. Unless given explicit permission by the instructor, students are not entitled to make up missed sessions in other sections.
Snow Closings
The Lucy Moses School normally closes for snow when the New York City public schools do; listen to WCBS Newsradio 88 (880 AM) or WINS (1010 AM) for our snow closing information. If a class is canceled due to snow, students will be contacted about scheduling a make-up session.
Private Lessons
Q: How are private lessons assigned?
A: Returning students continuing with the same teacher should specify preferred days and times on the registration form. Requests for a specific teacher are granted on a space available basis. New students have the opportunity to meet with the Coordinators of the Young People's and Adult Divisions for consultation and placement.
