Young Artist Program
The Kaufman Center's Young Artist Program offers highly motivated music students a comprehensive and unique course of after-school study. For grades 9-12, the extra-curricular program runs at both the Special Music School and the Lucy Moses School and is an exciting and challenging course with a competitive admissions process. Click here for more information.
Events
Annual festivals and school-wide events encourage individual and group achievement and provide inspiration for students at all levels. Several of these events take place on the stage of Merkin Concert Hall, including our Suzuki Spring Festival, Concerto Competition Winners' Concert, Composer Festival, Contemporary Music Festival, NASHIR! The Rottenberg Chorale annual concert and ChamberFest.
Library
Birnbaum Music Library, where parents and students will find an extensive collection of Israeli music in scores and on tape, in addition to other circulating musical material selected to serve students' needs.
Performance Etiquette
Performers should dress appropriately for concerts; there are no particular requirements, but no t-shirts, jeans, shorts or sneakers. (Concert dress is not required for previews.) Audience members are asked to please turn off cell phones and beepers, and refrain from taking flash photographs, which can be very distracting to both the performers and audience. We encourage parents and students to show the courtesy of staying for the full concert in support of all the students who worked hard to prepare for the performance. Latecomers and those who must leave early are asked not to enter or exit while a student is playing, but to wait for applause. Please seat very young children near the back of the hall, in case they are restless and need to leave during the performance.
Dance Class Attire
Proper dance attire is required for all classes, including ballet or jazz shoes, leotard and tights; or a t-shirt and sweat pants for boys.
