Before You Apply
We encourage prospective pupils and their guardians to visit us here at the Special Music School before applying to be accepted. We hold several Open House meetings throughout our school year where you can tour the school, get more information about our program and ask questions of our staff. No reservations are needed.

November 12, 2008: 6:30 pm
December 10, 2008: 6:30 pm
February 4, 2009: 6:30 pm
Are you eligible?
To be eligible for the Special Music School, a student must:
- be from one of the five boroughs of New York City
- be grade K–8 (starting at kindergarten level is recommended)
- exhibit strong musical potential
- have parents who are committed to their child's music program and who have time to support their daily after-school practice
To be eligible for the after-school Young Artist Program, a student must:
- be from one of the five boroughs of New York City
- be grade 9–12
- exhibit strong musical potential
- be able to commit to the program's rigorous after-school time commitment of daily practice, 4.5 hours a week for class and additional monthly concerts and seminars
