Jane Chapman
The harpsichord caused a sensation among audiences when it was first invented; many of the leading Baroque and classical composers wrote some of their best works for it. Today it is commonly thought of as an instrument used only for early music, but the young British virtuoso Jane Chapman might well change all that. At once a scholar of her tradition and a celebrated innovator, she will intersperse Bach’s Inventions with contemporary pieces for harpsichord, such as György Ligeti’s Hungarian Rock.
