In both solo and duo piano formations, Gosling and Coleman will perform György Ligeti’s Musica Ricercata, which takes the folk experiments of Bartók to new heights, and Three Pieces for Two Pianos, closing with Steve Reich’s mesmerizing Piano Phase. Pianist and Merkin Hall featured composer Anthony Coleman has become more than a mainstay of the Downtown music milieu as his progressive take on jazz has captured imaginations worldwide. The prolific pianist Stephen Gosling plays with “utter clarity and conviction” (Washington Post), and features in a multitude of New York’s leading new music ensembles.
